The ARL Quay Crane Visualiser is a client/ server system architecture standard software with a standard API, application program interface to the TOS, terminal operation system.

The app contains a number of on-quay clients used at the quay crane area by numerous handling and stevedoring roles like hatch clerk, tally men and quay crane driver.

The on-quay client displays the graphical bayplan on a handheld or mounted device highlighting planned work in the vessel bays, providing an update interface for executing the standard cargo handling, cargo handling operation, the special handling, special handling processes and the exception processes in realtime using a physical keyboard, virtual/soft keyboard or a touch screen.

The back-office system is available for the office planners using desktop computers to access the back office user interface containing management, configuration and setup features, and a number of back-office exception processes, which may not be supported in the TOS, terminal operation system, f.ex. photo documentation (future version) of container damages captured as an integral part of the container damage exception process by the on-quay client.

The app allow for confirmation EDI messages returned to the shipping line/ operator agent immediately after the vessel port call completion, as all moves are confirmed in real time. The app secure a high productivity as revised bayplans are distributed online to the quay side, and crane activities are logged. The app support mobile/ onquay printing of damage reports and other exception reports in a future version.

Finally, the app, application comes with an interface automatically capturing the vessels' bay structure, bay configuration as defined in the TOS, terminal operation system.

The vessels' bay structures are automatically read from the TOS, terminal operation system using the built-in API, application program interface.

The bay, bay structure, bay configuration is split per 20/40 bay and per under/ over deck below and on top of the hatches, and includes all slot, stacks and tiers. The bay navigator allow for easy overview of shared 20'/40' bays as well as adjacent bays.

All planned handling work is reflected in the bay structure, bay configuration using the move slot number.

Bayplan

The bayplan reflects the containers currently onboard the vessel depicted in the vessel's physical bay structure, bay configuration.

Prior to a vessel's arrival and commencement of cargo handling, cargo handling operation, the bayplan reflects the vessel's arrival condition

During the cargo handling operation, the bayplan is kept updated by the app, application, at all time reflecting the current status of all quay cranes handling operation.

After the completion of the cargo handling operation, the bayplan reflects the vessel's departure condition.

The cargo characteristics are picked up by the app, application from the TOS, terminal operation system using the built-in API, application program interface.

The cargoes characteristics include cargoes stuffed in containers in various sizes, as well as breakbulk cargo, provided available in the TOS, terminal operation system.

The cargo characteristics include the gross weight, IMO details, reefer details and OOG/ oog-of-gauge dimensions and the container characteristics.

Cargo handling, cargo handling operation, cargo handling automation

The planned cargo handling work queues are picked up by the app, application from the TOS, terminal operation system using the built-in API, application program interface.

The planned work queues are displayed as sequenced lists, with references to the graphical bayplan.

Whilst the sequence is dictated by the TOS, terminal operation system the execution allow for alternate handling confirmation sequences, provided such alternate handling confirmation sequences are valid.

If the planned work queues are adjusted or replaced during the course of the port stay, while the vessel is under handling, the replanned work queues are automatically made available to the app, application and its handheld devices.

The app, application on-quay client is accessed using a graphical handheld device running Windows OS, operating system.

The device can be handheld or mounted (in QC driver's cabin, hatch clerk or pinning station cabin). The app, application support use of physical keyboard, virtual keyboard or touch screen (graphical interaction).

Any standard device running Windows OS, operating system at the individual terminal's choice can be used.

Proprietary OS devices are not supported.

Camera (logging of container damages and seal checks) is supported in a future version

Network, network architecture

The app, application is a client/server application using out-of-a-box Wifi or public 3G/4G for interacting between the on-quay clients, the desktop clients and the server.

No proprietary network protocols are used or supported.

The on-quay client assumes that Wifi or 3G/4G signals are available on the quay side, in the quay crane (QC) cabin, as well as onboard the vessels or at central pinning areas in order to access to online system.

The app, application is a client/service architecture running on a Microsoft OS, operating system.

The server is installed in the container terminal's hosting environment <add server sw>.

The client uses Microsoft Silverlight graphical web-plugin (replaced by HTML5, running on Microsoft, Android and iOS/ iPad OS, operating system in a later version).

The on-quay client support physical keyboard, virtual (soft) keyboard and touch screen devices, and is intended run on handheld devices or mounted devices.

The clients and the server connect using a standard network, network architecture.

Yard hustler, yard truck

The yard trucks represent the horizonal transport between the quay side and the container terminal yard.

The app, application support that trucks arriving with a load container under the quay crane (QC) are confirmed loaded whilst the quay crane (QC) spreader is picking up the container, and the planned loading slot is automatically passed to the quay crane (QC) driver's mounted device; and that, discharge container dropped from the quay crane (QC) spreader to the truck is confirmed discharged (possibly triggering that the TOS, terminal operation system release the target yard block to the yard truck) as and integral part of the cargo handling, cargo handling operation and the special handling, special handling process.

Load or discharge update may also take place when the truck is passing a vessel or quay/ berth pinning area.
